The next Copernicus Symposium 'Making Science Work for Sustainability' will be held January 13, 2015 in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

"We are examining the barriers preventing the large-scale application of sustainable innovations. And analysing what can be done to remove these barriers.

A reliable supply of biomass and a reliable demand for bio energy is vital to develop stable market activities, aimed at bioenergy trade. Task 40, under the IEA Bioenergy Agreement, contributes to the development of sustainable biomass markets on short and on long term and on different scale levels (from regional to global).

Charles Darwin stond voor een groot raadsel toen hij ontdekte dat loofbomen zich tijdens het Krijt ongewoon snel verspreidden. Jarenlang braken wetenschappers zich het hoofd over het waarom van dit fenomeen. Milieuwetenschappers van de Universiteit Utrecht hebben nu een sluitende verklaring gevonden voor het raadsel van de snelle verspreiding van loofbomen in het Krijt.
